Well, when Glenn Greenwald (remember him? the guy who published Snowden’s files) quit the Intercept (being censored by the media organization he helped found), he migrated to Substack[1]. And I see that Matt Tiabbi also publishes on Substack; they are two journalist for whom I have high regard, and I figure, shit, if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me. Perhaps the question should be, am I good enough for Substack?
And, I was thinking about starting a Blog or something. Looked at Wordpress and WordThis and WordThat, and like, well, for some I’d have to pay money … and I’d have to figure out how to do everything and I’m pretty old and senile and incapable of learning anything new, not that I was ever very good at it.
And, Substack is apparently FREE (which means “I’m the product”). I like FREE. In principle I could add some options to even make money, but I’m not really interested in that (and I probably couldn’t get any paying Subscribers anyway). I’m more interested in just putting my ideas out there and will be really happy if maybe 10 of the 10,000,000,000 people in the world read it. You know, have a REALLY big impact. Just as my brother who writes books (they are literally one in a million, just in the U.S. per year[2]) and my old college roomie who writes songs [3] (here again I’ll bet one in approximately a million if not a billion [heck, even I wrote a song!]).
AND Substack is easy; I just just started using it and it seems to work.
AND I don’t think Google, Microsoft or Amazon own Substack yet, so I don’t think it is censored, otherwise Glenn and Matt wouldn’t be here.
And, I’m sick of absorbing all the SHIT on the Inter-web, and decided it might be a better use of my time to put SHIT out rather than take SHIT in, and so I do a lot of Posts about animal scatt.
Now, recently Substack has been attacked by a MSM journalist (see Substack article by Matt Tiabbi on Substack[4] [you try using Substack 4 times in one sentence]). I mean, come on, get real. Why attack Substack ? Most of us aren’t even reporters (e.g., I’m an Independent Scientist, and half of my posts seem to be about animal poopage (and in the future Posts about wolves [and of course their poopagios]).
But why am I doing this at all ? Isn’t there like 10^13 (e.g. 10 Trillion) other things I could be doing with my time?
So, very good question. Why am I using Substack? Maybe I should get a life, e.g., worry about things I can actually control.
