Why Do I Post on Substack ??? - 2
My Milankovitch Calculations: I'm really proud of them. Why don't I publish?
So, I’m pretty proud of some of my Milankovitch calculations[1]. I even needed to go spend good money on a new 400$ computer to do the calculations, money that could have perhaps been better spent on Knob Creek Kentucky Bourbon and American Spirit cigarettes.
So, why don’t I publish my work in a “Journal”. I could add that to my, to first order, 100 other Journal, Invited Talks, and Proceedings Publications, and wouldn’t that look nice on my Obituary?
Well, for one thing, I personally haven’t read a “Scientific Journal” in decades, and rarely read them in graduate school nor as a practicing scientist, so why publish in a Journal, even Physical Review Letters (the “preeminent” physics journal) ? Like, who reads those things? And you can’t read them unless you pay money (e.g., here’s one of my Phys Rev Lttrs from 29 years ago[2]; you can read it for only 35$ [and I won’t see a penny of that] and I can’t even read it w/o a paying or having a membership to the American Physical Society, which I haven’t had for about a decade and a half, me and Giaever[3]). But I still did look at publishing in Phys Rev Lttrs (old habits die hard) and I’d have to jump through all sorts of hoops and then I’d have to PAY them money to publish my work. Well, when I worked at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility that was no big deal — the University would pay as it would “enhance their prestige”. And think about this: The Ex-Editors of both the Lancent and New England Journal of Medicine, the two “Premier” Medical Journals, both wrote editorials in the Wall Street Journal saying that at least half of what they publish is pure bullshit (e.g. that bullshit paper about using the PCR test for CoVid-1984 which became the “standard”[4]). And add to that, any Journal to which I might submit would deem my writings as “against the Narrative”, since I wouldn’t be able to restrain myself from questioning the Anthropogenic Global Warming Narrative, and then my paper probably wouldn’t be published for no one to read even if it were to be published.
So, I published it on Substack for Free, and probably more people read it. And on Substack I get to poke fun at Al Gore and Greta all I want (I got a whole Post in the works on that which should be fun!).
If you give your money away, it’s gone. At least if you give your knowledge away, for free, you still have it. But to have to PAY to give away your knowledge is just like one step too far for me. I’ll leave that to the University Professors who need publications. As George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it”[5].
On the other-other hand, I could change my Substack account and require paid subscriptions for people to read my babblings; perhaps then people would perceive my babblings as having more value? Maybe the day of “Peer-Reviewed” Journals are past and perhaps (I’m not talking about myself) some of the best articles about matters of importance, e.g. CoVid-1984, are not found in papers written by Big Pharma and the Imperial College of London and published in Journals, but rather on the Internet not behind paywalls, and not “peer-reviewed” or “fact-checked” (i.e., Censored), though maybe blatantly-censored by Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. I’m pretty amazed at some good articles I’ve found at such sites as:
GlobalResearch.ca
CorbettReport.com
Off-Guardian.org
and of course my favorites for all-over-the-map crazy articles from the following non-original content aggregators or re-posters of information:
ZeroHedge.com
WhatReallyHappened.com
Oh, and did I mention Substack.com ?
You know, there was a time I thought it might be fun to be a college professor. Today I’m very glad I’m retired, and can “publish” anything I want without worry about being sufficiently “Woke”, “cancelled”, harassed[6], fired, or needing my babblings to be “peer-reviewed” or “fact-checked”.
