It's difficult to observe people who trust elected office holders enough to willfully defend the things that they say in public. The ceremonial bullshittery is embarrassing. Their loyalty to special interests is veiled so thinly, and their promises to voting constituents are so obviously disingenuous that I'm convinced our ancestors made a grave mistake in designing our civic institutions.
I would gladly trade this for monarchy and national autodeterminism, just to restore transparency. Enlightenment liberalism movements forgot to replace Westphalian accountability with something. At least the king can be identified.
