I never imagined that, as a conservative Republican who believes in the Bible, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, my own government would look at me (and others like me) as a subversive and a potential domestic terrorist.

Just another demonstration of how tyrannical the US government under Biden and the Democrats has become.

Agreed. But, you must admit, it isn't just Democrats. It's Washington. It's Brussels. It's London. And Beijing. And Moscow.

But in the US it’s Biden, the Democrats, and their allies in the bureaucracy that are pushing increasing totalitarian government. They are trying to rule through the administrative bureaucracy and executive orders, thereby circumventing Congress and the will of the American people.

An example of this is issue of electric cars.

The Congress would never vote to eliminate gasoline powered vehicles, so Biden and friends have their people in the government change the pollution standards .... which effectively makes it impossible for automakers to use internal combustion engines in automobiles.

Voila’ , no more gasoline powered cars allowed....

(no exaggeration, just announced last week).

I haven’t even mentioned the democrats abuse of the legal system . Everyone knows that it’s happening but little can be done about it because the democrats control the Justice Department.

And many in the Democrat Party actually approve....

The Republican Party is not the reason for the increasing totalitarianism, but in many ways it is one of its victims.

The fact that the Republicans have not yet found an effective way to prevent this creeping fascism doesn’t mean that they support it.

It just means that they suck.....

The Democrats ARE primarily at fault.

When it comes to Britain and the Europeans, they have much the same problem. Bad people have found better ways to do bad things.

Moscow and Peking (just to annoy the ‘politically correct’) have always been authoritarian regimes (with the exception of a few failed experiments), so the ebb and flow of their totalitarianism isn’t as worrying (to me) as what is happening here and in Western Europe.

You and I, were we to have a longer conversation, Mark, would almost certainly agree on many things. We might disagree only about the innocence of establishment Republicans and, perhaps, about who really wields Western political power. The right's failure to preserve conservative institutions isn't for lack of opportunity. They are complicit in designing the civic institutions that you see before you. On behalf of billionaire "donors" who would (and do) gladly pay either party to further their interests and visions.

Whoa, I never said that ESTABLISHMENT Republicans (meaning McConnell and friends) are innocent of anything. Some of them are almost as bad as the Democrats.

What I am saying is that the Republican Party is not out to remake our civilization into some dystopian parody of what we have known as the United States of America.

The Democrats are actively trying to do just that.

You’re right, we would probably agree about most things in a longer conversation :)

> Oh heck, why not? You’re probably already on The List for reading my Substack!

It's not a competition, I know. But I bet I'm on more lists than you! I worked hard for my spot(s).

> Many argue that Democracy ALWAYS leads to Totalitarianism

Ancient wisdom. Utterly demonstrable by history.

Absolutely true. That’s why the Founders set the US up as a constitutional republic. They were hoping that it would last.

They never envisioned a situation where a portion of the population (and their elected leaders) would actively try to undermine the system.

I'm sure they would be surprised by many aspects of 21st Century USA, but their imaginations weren't wildly far off.

> Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.

-- James Madison

> The masses are asses.

-- Alexander Hamilton

Just as the Romans before them, who they studied and admired, the founders blundered. My only question now is: where's our Julius Caesar and what is his Rubicon?

I’ve often wondered about the same thing.

If it has to happen it better be ours not theirs.....

I’m not sure that I would enjoy a ‘re-education’ camp.....
