I'm aware that I'm being relentlessly monitored and that my data is exploited for advertising. But I now look at it through the lens of game theory.
I bought a Google Home Max, which listens to everything we say in our home and, even when not speaking to it directly, uses our private conversations for advertisement targeting as per the EULA. I know this because, for example, I'll mention something to my wife about my stomach being upset and, within a few hours, I start getting Pepto Bismol ads on YouTube and ads for homeopathic constipation remedies on various websites that use Google Adwords.
So now I deliberately say things in front of the Google Home device that will attract ultra-expensive cost-per-click adverts.
"Katie, remind me to make an appointment with an oncologist for the mesothelioma diagnosis."
"I need to get the Lamborghini serviced soon."
"Let's find a good attorney for the injury you sustained when that freight truck hit us."
"Do you know where the nearest diamond retailer is? I want to buy your sister a diamond necklace for her wedding anniversary."
And then I click on the ads, which costs the advertisers a $2-100 every time and screws up their ROI through Google advertising.
As of 02 April '23, I see that over 7 M$ has been pledged by over 6,000 people so support Sustack.
Of course, please don't send me a donation until you have paid your cable bill so you can continue to get MSNBC

And I hope you have sent in your donation to NPR (I keep forgetting -- is that Narrative Promotion Radio, or National Propaganda Radio ?)
